General Information

The Garrard Street congregation of the church of Christ meets at 218 Garrard Street. Our regular schedule is as follows:

Sunday

10:00 AMBible Study7:00 PMBible Study*
11:00 AMWorship Service
6:00 PMWorship Service

*NOTE: On Wednesday evenings, we usually meet in the house behind the main building (our fellowship hall). As you approach the front of the main building, walk down the sidewalk around the right side of the building. When you get to the back of the main building, you will see the porch for the fellowship hall -- walk right in!

What to Expect

Our goal is to practice simple, New Testament Christianity. With that in mind, when you attend one of our worship services, we hope you will see a group of people conducting themselves in a way consistent with accounts of Christians in the Scriptures. This means that you may notice a number of differences from what is common with other religious groups. For example, our building is just a building. It isn't ornate or elaborate. We don't consider it to be anything more significant than a place for God's people (the Church) to meet. You may also notice that we don't have any musical instruments nor do we have a choir. Since we don't see accounts of instruments being used in worship in the New Testament, we choose not to use them in worship either. There are certainly many other differences you may notice between us and other groups, but these are some of the most obvious.

Our typical worship service follows a pattern similar to this:

  • Welcome/announcements
  • A song or two
  • Scripture reading (a key passage on which the sermon will be based)
  • Prayer
  • A song
  • Lord's Supper (a remembrance of Jesus' sacrifice in which all baptized believers are welcome to participate)
  • A song
  • Sermon (usually about 25 or 30 minutes long)
  • Invitation/song (a time when anyone who wishes to dedicate their life to Christ or who wishes to make a need known to the congregation may approach the front, share their request or need with the minister and appropriate action will be taken)
  • A song
  • Dismissal prayer
